Review

This review is for the 2014 release of Resident evil 4 on the PC.

I'm not going to go into detail about a HD remake of a game that's been released in no less than 6 different years since it's original release 9 years ago. No, this review is literally how does the PC version compare to it's last Xbox 360 / PSN HD Remake release.

Well the answer is meh. There's little doubt this is the best the game has every looked, and it's the only version that runs at 60fps. But ultimately in the 3 years since the Xbox 360 / PSN release they've done very little to upgrade it for the PC market. Cut sequences still use the original 480p video, even on screens that contain just text, which looks horrendously pixelated. There's some improvement on foreground textures, but background textures haven't been touched.

My biggest annoyance is the game size. I game off an 250gb SSD so with a library of 300+ Steam games I have to pick and choose what is installed carefully. RE4 takes up a whopping 16gb of diskspace! compared to the original Gamecube release which came on 2x 1.5gb discs that is ridiculous.

Lastly the game has Steam Achievements, but they are the same old set from the previous HD remake.

Overall, it's a must if you're a die hard fan of the game and want the best version. However, at the same time I don't think enough has been upgraded to justify yet another £14.99 for the same game I've already bought on the Gamecube, PS2, Wii & Xbox 360
